Jay Raven Author

I describe myself as a Gothic Horror writer, but my work sits on the border between three closely related subgenres: Gothic Horror, Dark Fantasy, and Historical Horror.

My fiction spans a wide range of eras and settings — from gruesome medieval court intrigues to Victorian paranormal chillers, with the occasional Wild West witchcraft yarn and fractured fairy tale. The one constant throughout is that every story is set in the past.

I aim to reinvent Hammer Horror for a modern audience, creating intelligent, atmospheric horror that blends gothic tradition with psychological tension and clever twists. My stories focus on morally complex characters and emotional jeopardy rather than gore or cheap shocks — horror for the mind as much as the pulse.
